Another week of slim pickings, even for the UTR
2/14 – David Sanchez (26-2-2, 20 KO’s) vs. Juan Alberto Rosas (40-8, 28 KO’s) – Palenque de la Expogan, Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico
This is Sanchez’s first defense of the interim WBA World super flyweight title that he won in May. The champ hasn’t lost in over four years and has also held the WBA International and interim WBC Silver belts in the same division. Rosas had a short run as the IBF super flyweight champ, but hasn’t won a world title bout since 2010.
2/14 – Derric Rossy (29-9, 14 KO’s) vs. Akhror Muralimov (16-0, 13 KO’s) – Resorts World Casino, Queens, New York, USA
Once an undefeated heavyweight prospect, Rossy’s career stalled a bit after losing to Eddie Chambers in 2007. Losses to other profile opponents followed, including a rematch with Chambers, Kubrat Pulev and Alexander DImitrenko. He comes in off a close loss to Vyacheslav Glazkov, in which he gave the high ranked IBF contender one of his toughest challenges to date; with some even feeling he should have won the bout. Muralimov is a guy with an impressive record with little behind it. Safe to say that Rossy looks to be the best opposition he’s seen so far. The vacant IBF North American heavyweight title is up for grabs in this one.
2/15 – Sonny Boy Jaro (38-13-5, 27 KO’s) vs. Albert Alcoy (14-21-7, 4 KO’s) – Angono Sports Complex (Angono Municipal Gym), Barangay Mahabang, Angono, Rizal, Philippines
Jaro was never able to capitalize on his 2012 WBC flyweight title win over Thai legend Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, and lost his following three bouts. In 2014 he won four bouts over run of the mill opposition, and Alcoy looks perfect to give Jaro his first win of the new year.
