It wasn’t the definitive ending everyone was expecting, but it got Terry Flanagan (27-0, 10 KO’s) where he wanted to be.  Earlier tonight at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, defending WBO European lightweight champion Stephen Ormond (17-2, 8 KO’s) fouled out in the 10th frame of a world title eliminator, giving Flanagan the win and the opportunity to face off for the WBO world lightweight strap.

Flanagan showed why he was the odds on favorite, and was the faster and sharper of the two.  His superior boxing skills appeared to frustrate Ormond, who had his moments in the bout but was never able to gain a solid foothold over his British counterpart.  Over aggression in the ninth frame saw Ormond lose a point for head butting, with a second butt in the 10th causing the disqualification.

Flanagan will face the winner of another eliminator between Juan Diaz and Takahiro Ao once current WBO lightweight title holder Terence Crawford vacates the title to move up in weight.  The new Euro champ did say he’d offer Ormond a rematch after his world title challenge.

In the nights co-feature, Tommy Langford (12-0, 3 KO’s) stopped Wayne Reed (11-10, 5 KO’s) in the fifth round.  Reed was dropped twice in the fourth round by body shots; Langford opened up in the fifth, over whelming Reed and prompting the stoppage.
