Anthony Joshua (l) faces Jason Gavern this Saturday

Anthony Joshua (l) faces Jason Gavern this Saturday

4/3 – China Smith (35-4, 27 KO’s) vs. Mike Sheppard (22-18-1, 9 KO’s) – Robarts Arena, Sarasota, Florida, USA

With the WBF North American heavyweight title up for grabs, Smith looks for his third win since being out of action for six and a half years.  These two faced off in June with Smith taking a 10 round decision.  Sheppard’s fought guys on all levels, his last notable fight being a fourth round stoppage loss to Antonio Tarver in 2013.

4/4 – Carlos Cuadras (31-0-1, 25 KO’s) vs. Luis Concepcion (32-3, 23 KO’s) – Unidad Deportiva Martín Alarcón, Metepec, México, Mexico

Cuadras is making the third defense of the WBC super-flyweight title; his last three wins have come inside the distance, as did a technical draw with Jose Salgado last September.  Concepcion has been a regional title holder in both the flyweight and super flyweight classes, and currently holds the WBC Silver super flyweight belt.  He had a run as the interim WBA World flyweight title holder that ended with a stoppage loss to Hernan Marquez in 2011; he was stopped again in a rematch later that year.  He’s won nine straight since.

4/4 – Anthony Joshua (10-0, 10 KO’s) vs. Jason Gavern (26-19-4, 11 KO’s) – Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom

As a pro, Joshua’s made quick work of his opponents with just one making it to the third round.  The WBC International heavyweight title holder squares off against American stepping stone Gavern in his first bout since a stress fracture in his back kept him out of action since November.  His 37 year old American opponent has made a career as a gatekeeper of sorts, facing up and coming prospects or sometimes just taking a fight to stay busy.  One of his most notable victories came in the 2013 Prizefighter tournament, where he won a three round decision over James Toney in the semifinal match; he went on to lose to Michael Sprott in the final.

4/4 – Big Knockout Boxing 2

Don’t forget the second installment of Big Knockout Boxing on PPV this Saturday.  The card features five BKB title contests, including the first ever women’s BKB championship in the lightweight division.  Headlining the show is “King” Gabriel Rosado (21-9, 13 KO’s) defending the BKB middleweight title against Curtis “Showtime” Stevens (27-5, 20 KO’s).  Also on the card is David Estrada (26-6, 16 KO’s) and Khurshid Abdullaev (6-1-1, 3 KO’s) fighting for Estrada’s BKB light middleweight strap.  The welterweight title will be up for grabs between champ Javier Garcia (10-3-2, 9 KO’s) and Jonathan Chicas (13-2, 6 KO’s).  Cruiserweights Anthony Johnson (8-0, 3 KO’s) and Joey Montoya (8-2-3, 3 KO’s) fight for the BKB title in their division and the first ever BKB women’s champion will be determined when Layla McCarter (36-13-5, 8 KO’s) and Diana Prazak (13-3, 9 KO’s) face off for the lightweight title.
